Fallen Warrior

Posted: August 16, 2011 in Blog, Dan Laguna, Events, Special Operations

Another sad day for the Special Ops Community. Two men were killed serving their country. One is from Layton, UT. His body is being flown in today. I and my son-in-law, Aaron Quinlan served in the same Special Operations Unit and will be riding with the Patriot Guard Riders to greet this fallen soldier at the Salt Lake International Airport and escorting him to his hometown in Layton, UT. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. I want to thank him and his family for his service to our great country. He will be greatly missed.  NSDQ (Night Stalkers Don’t Quit) SGDM (Six Guns Don’t Miss).

As the 4th of July approaches I am reminded of how great our country is. This country was founded on freedom and our brave soldiers sacrifice everyday for us to remain free. They do the hard things that most of us do not want to do and we would not be free if it weren’t for our soldiers.

I want to personally thank each and everyone who has served in the armed forces protecting our freedoms.  I also want to thank the families who also sacrifice for our freedom.  I personally know the toll the military life style has on the family and the soldier individually. I want to also thank my family, my wife, my children, and my mother and father for supporting me in my career as a Special Operations Soldier. Thank you and God Bless America.

My book You Have To Live Hard To Be Hard One Mans Life in Special Operations tells my life story and what it was like for myself and my family during my 30 years of military service, most of which was spent in special operations. I was a Special Forces Green Beret during my first 10 years of the Army and a Special Operations helicopter pilot for the TF 160th SOAR most of my remaining years in the Army. The book documents my near fatal helicopter accident in 1994 in which my good friend, Carlos Guerrero was sadly killed, and my lengthy recovery and return to duty a year later. It also tells about the events of January 23rd, 2007 in which my brother and 4 other men were killed on the same mission that I and my crew survived.

The book can be purchased at    http://www.youhavetolivehardtobehard.com/

In honor of our Special Operations Soldiers we also have “You Have To Live Hard To Be HardTshirts and Hats for sale. Visit our website at www.livehardtobehard.com

Dad and Art …. I miss you both so much. Life is not the same but I know deep down that we will be together again. Family is FOREVER! Dad, I know Memorial Day was your favorite holiday and in 2004 it was also the day you decided to go back to heaven. Tell Art I miss him and that I am sorry for how things ended for him. I would do anything to change it if I could. I know you both are in good company with the many heroes from our country through the ages. The rest of us here are doing our best to carry on and to make you both proud. You and Art are always in our prayers.

As for my other brave brothers who died in combat, thanks for your service and sacrifice to keep us all free. I pray our country will remain free and that your sacrifice was not in vain. God Bless America.

Dan was invited to speak at the Native American Chamber of Commerce held at the Zions Bank Building in Salt Lake City, UT. We met the most amazing people who have similar desires to pay it forward. When you are so blessed you just want to share and help others to enjoy the same blessings.

YOU HAVE TO LIVE HARD TO BE HARD One Man’s Life In Special Operations by Dan Laguna

There really are very few books that you “can’t put down” and this is one of those books.

As a pilot and having been involved in the pilot training business for years, we would always hear stories about the “TF160 group.”  It was a mysterious group of the best trained, best disciplined and most hardened professional pilots that exist.  They operated where no man would dare and they performed operations that all knew were amazing even without knowing the facts… because they can’t be told.  Dan Laguna opens up, to the extent that he can, what it was like to be part of this elite group. More importantly he opens the door to the type of men these pilots are in their personal lives. They are family men, patriots and men of God.

My personal thanks to Dan for opening the curtain behind his incredible personal life.

You Have To Live Hard To Be Hard One Man’s Life In Special Operations by Dan Laguna

Dan Laguna has delivered one of the finest memorials to those who gave it all for the freedoms so many of us take for granted. His ability to tell the story of these high flying, super patriotic, uncommonly brave group of American heroes will keep the reader riveted page after page. He brings glory, decency, honor and esprit de corps to a world desperately in need of righteous examples of serving ones country while in the employ of a company named Blackwater. They do it with a magnificent flair and a zest for doing what is right in an upside down world. The book tells a different story than most have seen in the main stream media about Blackwater and illustrates in great detail why I’d like to be there to carry their water. Mr. Laguna has given light to those he has portrayed as they really are; living large, living big, living hard.
